GOVERNOR’S SUMMER JOB HUNT KICKS OFF WITH YOUTH CAREER FAIR ON MARCH 11

Colorado Springs, CO – It’s that time of year again… time for the Governor’s Summer Job Hunt! The Governor’s Summer Job Hunt connects youth, ages 16 through 21, with local businesses to help them find short-term, summer employment.

In El Paso and Teller Counties, the Summer Job Hunt will start with a youth career fair on Thursday, March 11, 2010 hosted by the Youth Zone at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center. There is no charge to attend but pre-registration is recommended. Youth must be at least 16 years old to participate.

Due to current economic conditions, youth will be encouraged to seek volunteer opportunities to gain experience and build their resumes for future job openings. The Career Fair will also host local vocational schools and colleges so that youth can learn about possible career paths.

WHO: Youth between the ages of 16 and 21 who are looking for full-time or part-time employment or volunteer opportunities.

WHAT: Youth Career Fair for young adults, 16 through 21 years old. Workshops to help youth write a résumé and prepare for interviewing and job searching will be presented during March (more information follows).

WHEN: Thursday, March 11, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

WHERE: Stargazer’s Theatre, 10 S. Parkside Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.

WHY: To connect youth with local employers looking to hire for summer and year-round positions and volunteer opportunities.

Career Fair attendees should dress appropriately; bring multiple copies of their resumes and application information to help them fill out applications.

WORKSHOPS: the following youth workshops will be presented in March to help youth prepare for their job search:

March 3 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Resume Writing
March 8 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Self Advocacy
March10 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Resume Writing
March 15 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Job Readiness
March 17 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Interview Skills
March 22 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Self-analysis
March 24 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Social Media
March 31 – 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. – Job Readiness
