JANUARY JOB SEARCH WORKSHOPS

People looking for work can start the new year off right by attending free job search workshops offered by the Pikes Peak Workforce Center. Spending a short amount of time in a workshop arms job seekers the latest job search tips and trends and should help them find employment more quickly.

Job Shop: Guided Job Search

Tuesday, January 13 or 27, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Register online at www.ppwfc.org or call 719.667.3790.

A comprehensive, full-day program of intensive, job search guidance and organization including: resume and portfolio development; how to fill out a job application, benefits of networking, tips for interviewing, and negotiation. For all job seekers: unemployed, underemployed, account executive or welder.

Résumé ‘Righting!’ – Résumé and Portfolio Design

Mondays, January 5, 12, or 26, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. No registration necessary. PPWFC will be closed Monday, January 19, 2009 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Resumes often are a report of past accomplishments when they should be an advertisement of future potential. Job seekers who are over or under-qualified struggle with how best to present themselves. Attendees will learn the latest trends in resume design and content.

Self Employment: The Driver’s Seat

Tuesday: January 6, or 20, 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Register online at www.ppwfc.org or call 719.667.3790.

This workshop is for those who want to be their own boss and examines questions such as “Are you willing to work long hours?” “Do you have an entrepreneurial personality?” Topics covered include available resources for starting a business, finance plans, licensing, enterprise zones, marketing, and intellectual property.

Health Insurance: Alternatives to COBRA

Friday, January 9, 10:00 a.m. to noon. Register by calling 667-3790.

A period of unemployment is made worse by health care costs. This session explores options that could save you precious resources!
