SUMMER WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM SEEKS EMPLOYER PARTICIPANTS

SUMMER WORK EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

SEEKS EMPLOYER PARTICIPANTS

Program Funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

The Pikes Peak Workforce Center (PPWFC) announces its Summer Work Experience program, which is funded by the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The Center is seeking employers willing to hire youth, ages 16 through 24, who want to gain valuable work experience.

Local employers can benefit from extra staffing, at no cost, while helping prepare their future workforce. The Center hopes to create 300 work experiences for young people who need to gain experience so that they can secure employment in the future.

Details of the program follow:

* Wages and workers’ compensation costs covered by program
* Training costs may be covered by program.
* Summer work experiences will occur from May 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009. A work experience can last from one week to the entire duration of the program.
* Employers who choose to hire these youth at the end of the work experience may be eligible for incentives, such as, tax credits and partially-subsidized on-the-job training.
* All employers are encouraged to participate, however, the primary focus of the Summer Work Experience program is high-demand career fields, including "green" jobs, health care, applied sciences/engineering, and computer systems/technology.
* Businesses not eligible to participate in this program include casinos/gaming facilities, zoos, aquariums, pools, and golf courses.
* A work experience can not replace a paid position already allocated by the employer, nor can it displace a current employee.

Employers interested in the Summer Work Experience program should submit a job description(s) to Michelle Graham, Director of Youth Programs, at graham.m@ppwfc.org.
