SECURES OLYMPIC SWIMMER, MARK SPITZ, FOR
NOVEMBER 11th BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS
Colorado Springs, CO, April 2, 2009--Peak Vista Community Health Centers announced today at a Press Conference at the United States Olympic Training Center that it is under contract with nine time Gold Medal Olympic Swimmer, Mark Spitz, to serve as keynote for its 2009 Breakfast of Champions on November 11th at the Broadmoor’s International Center. The event recognizes volunteer physician and dentist champions, celebrates a Champion of Community Health, raises awareness of Peak Vista services and generates funds for Peak Vista’s important work. Since this year’s event will be held on Veteran’s Day, Peak Vista will also recognize military champions. Bill and Kathy Hybl are founding co-chairs of the event.
“Each year, Peak Vista has an Olympian keynote our signature event, Breakfast of Champions. We are thrilled to have Mark Spitz speak at our 2009 event as he is not only a champion in his sport, but also a champion in life. His story will be one that this community will certainly want to hear,” according to BJ Scott , Peak Vista President and CEO.
Mark Spitz's records of swimming brilliance began long before the 1972 Olympics. Born in Modesto , California in1950, Mark held 17 national age group swimming records at the age of ten. Furthermore, in the 1968 Olympics at Mexico City , he captured two gold, one silver and one bronze medal.
Mark has appeared in national television commercials, endorsed major companies and has become one of the countries most sought after motivational speakers. In 1996, Mark had commercial endorsements for Xerox, Kodak, Bausch and Lomb, John Hancock Insurance, General Motors, General Mills and Swatch Watch. He was also a spokesman for these companies at the Atlanta Olympic Games.
In the last two years, Mark has helped to raise more than one million dollars for the United States Olympic Committee through organizations directly associated with the USOC.
Four years ago, Mark was voted Athlete of the Century in water sports and was one of the six best Olympians of the Century voted by Sports Illustrated Magazine. Recently the International Olympic Committee selected Mark as one of the five athletes of the century. Currently Mark is on the Laureus World Sports Academy working on projects world wide in concert with the Laureus Sports for Good Foundation.
Married for the past 30 years, Mark and his wife Suzy have two sons. They reside in Los Angeles , California .
