Taking advantage of Governor Bill Ritters push to expand the renewable energy industry in the state and finanacial incentives offered to municipalities, individuals and companies, the Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp is currently in talks with almost a dozen renewable energy firms about locating operations in the Colorado Springs area.
Buildings that formerly housed fabrication plants are a good fit for solar products manufacturing and according to the EDC there are at least two that have their eyes on the former Sanmina SCI plant (250,000 sq ft) on Bandley Road in Fountain. An offer may come within the next 6 months.
The EDC reports that at least 150 firms overall are considering making a move to the Colorado Springs area. One of the biggest selling points - existing local industries that can provide support, synergies and a well-trained, highly educated workforce.
