Assault on Pikes Peak Cycling Event, August 29th

INAUGURAL PIKES PEAK CYCLING EVENT NOW TO START IN MANITOU SPRINGS WITH LOWER ENTRY FEE
Partners with 3rd Annual Peak Region Cyclist Bicycle Fest

(Colorado Springs, Colo.) - Summit Cycling Productions is proud to announce the route of the inaugural Assault on the Peak bicycle ride up Pikes Peak - America's Mountain has been expanded, the entry fees have been lowered and a new partner has been added. Scheduled for Sunday, August 29, the 2010 Assault of the Peak will provide cycling enthusiasts with the opportunity to ascend America's most famous mountain.

The new starting and staging area will be in Memorial Park, located in Manitou Springs, CO. Riders will make a 50-mile trek with more than 7,500 feet of vertical climb. Participants will start west up Manitou Avenue until they reach Highway 24. They will then proceed west on the east bound portion of the highway that will be closed to allow the cyclists their own lane to negotiate this portion of the event. Riders will turn left off of Highway 24 in Cascade, CO and follow the road up to the Pikes Peak Highway. The previously announced route began at the highway tollgate and this newly expanded route will add an additional six miles and 1,500 vertical feet. "With expanding the original route, we believe this may indeed be the hardest sustained mountain cycling challenge in the world," explains Event Director Pat McDonough.

Because of the increased ride distance, the promoters, Summit Cycling Productions, will offer a second finish area at Glen Cove, allowing riders who aren't confident in making it to the summit an opportunity to still participate and challenge themselves. The ride will begin an hour earlier, at 7 a.m., to give cyclists more time to reach the summit.

Summit Cycling Productions is also happy to announce that, due to sponsor Red Noland Cadillac's generosity, the price to ride the event is now reduced. Registration for those riding to the summit of Pikes Peak is $150 and registration for those riding to Glen Cove is $90. "We are very excited Red Noland Cadillac made a significant contribution enabling us to lower the fees for all the participants," says Mark Tyson of Summit Cycling Productions. The addition of the finish line at Glen Cove will also allow riders to enter the event at a price under $100.

Peak Region Cyclist magazine will also be holding their annual bicycle expo on August 29, 2010 at Memorial Park, which is the staging area for the Assault on the Peak event. This annual bicycle expo will provide cycling enthusiasts, spectators and participants an opportunity to explore over 60 cycling companies including frame-builders, manufacturers, bike shops, cycling nutrition, world-famous coaching, Olympic athletes, bike advocacy groups, cycling clubs and more. The bicycle expo is a free event for the public to enjoy. Visitors who ride their bike to the event can take advantage of the free bike valet.
