Press Release
May 16th & 17th, 2009
In late 2008, Michael Garman decided to retire due to worsening health conditions. When we announced his retirement and the upcoming close of Michael Garman Galleries, we were overwhelmed by the community response. So many of you came to see Michael, to offer words of encouragement, and to tell us what his sculptures have meant to you for the past four decades.
We are truly thankful for all your support. It also made us as a company, and Michael as a member of this lovely community, to consider ways to give back to the region. The last thing anyone needs is another vacant storefront. Colorado Springs is such a vibrant area and Old Colorado City is such a unique artistic venue that, in the end, Michael just couldn’t walk away.
The upcoming Michael Garman Museum will pay tribute to Michael’s fifty-year career. We will continue to offer a limited line of sculptures for sale in the museum. In addition, we will be expanding our personalization department so that every customer can personalize a unique scene of their own. Other museum features include:
· Expanded Magic Town
· Deluxe Scavenger Hunts
· Guided tours
· Displays of Michael’s early work including one-of-a-kind clay pieces and sketches
· Expanded personalization department to design your own Shadowbox Street Scene
· Video biography of Michael’s life and work
